| Absence or cessation of menstruation. In primary amenorrhoea the menstrual periods fail to occur at puberty; causes may be genetic or hormonal. Secondary amenorrhoea is the cessation of periods once established; causes include hormonal imbalance, depression or some traumatic life event, such as bereavement. |
