American National Standards Institute

US national standards body. It sets official procedures in (among other areas) computing and electronics. The ANSI character set is the standard set of characters used by Windows-based computers.

ANSI C is a version of the C language that has been approved by the ANSI committee. In theory, all ANSI C compilers, regardless of which company produces them, should behave in the same way.
