The large building just below the centre of the photograph is the facility's wind tunnel; beyond, at the edge of the Ames-operated Moffett Federal Airfield, is the vast airship or ‘blimp’ hangar. ![]() The Soviet Biosatellite Cosmos carried two monkeys, ten rats, and a number of plant specimens. Over 50 NASA-sponsored US scientists from the Ames Research Center and a number of universities participated in this cooperative effort, which was one of the 16 agreed projects under the US-Soviet Space Agreement signed in Moscow, Russia, in April 1987.
