amrit| Sweetened water used during Sikh ceremonies such as a naming ceremony (Nam Karan) and Amrit Sanskar (baptism into the Khalsa). The amrit is made in an iron or steel bowl by stirring sugar crystals and water with a kirpan (dagger). It is then drunk and sprinkled on the eyelids and hair of those for whom the ceremony is being held. |
