Emmaus

Town in Lehigh County, east Pennsylvania; population (1990) 11,200. It is located 8 km/5 mi south of Allentown. Founded by Moravians c. 1740, it was closed to members of other denominations from 1758–1836. The home of Rodale Press and site of the nonprofit Rodale Institute and its experimental organic farm, Emmaus is primarily residential but has some light industry.
