Anu
| Mesopotamian sky god, commonly joined in a trinity with Enlil, the god of storms, and Ea, the god of water. |
| Anu was the father and king of the gods, despite a relatively minor role in mythological texts. As ‘The High One’, Anu was thought to be god of the air and atmosphere and thus of the heavens. His consort was Antum (Anat) and the chief seat of his worship was Erech. The attributes of Anu were largely transferred to the latter Assyrian national god Ashur. |
