Anadyr

Town at the mouth of the River Anadyr, in the Russian Far East; population (2002) 11,000. It is the administrative and cultural capital of the Chukot Autonomous Okrug. Principal economic activities are fishing and lignite (brown coal) mining.

River in the Chukot Autonomous Okrug, in the Russian Far East; length 1,150 km/715 mi. The Anadyr rises in the Kolyma Mountains and flows east into the Gulf of Anadyr, an inlet of the Bering Sea.
