Anahuac

Geographical region of Mexico. The name was originally applied by the Aztecs to their kingdom, but is now used to describe the whole of the central Mexican plateau, and more specifically the plateau-valley around Mexico City. It was once covered by lakes, and is a major granary and stock-raising centre.
