Anders, William Alison (1933– )

US astronaut. He flew on Apollo 8, the first crewed flight to the Moon, orbiting it in December 1968 with Frank Borman and James Lovell. He was selected as an astronaut in 1963, and left NASA in 1969 to serve as executive secretary of the National Aeronautics and Space Council.
