Anderson, June (1952– )

US soprano. Her debut at the New York City Opera in 1978 was as the Queen of the Night; other New York roles included Lucia, Cleopatra, and Olympia. Her European debut was in 1982, in Rome, as Semiramide. In 1985–86 she sang Amina at La Scala and Isabelle in Robert le Diable at the Paris Opéra. Her spectacular coloratura was much applauded in a concert performance of Semiramide at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London. Other roles include Gilda, Violetta, Rossini's Desdemona, and Bellini's Elvira. Her Metropolitan Opera House debut was in 1989, as Gilda.
