André, Martin (1960- )

English conductor. He studied at the Royal College of Music, London, and at Cambridge, and made his debut in 1982 with his own edition of Purcell's King Arthur. He conducted Aida, Jenůfa, and Ernani for the Welsh National Opera, and appeared with the Vancouver Opera from 1987, with The Cunning Little Vixen, Ariadne, and Traviata. His London concert debut was in 1987, with the English Chamber Orchestra, and he led For The Love of Three Oranges (1990) and the premiere of John Buller's The Bacchae (1991) for the English National Opera Ensemble. He was made conductor of the English Touring Opera in 1993.
