Andreanof Islands

Island group in the central Aleutian Islands, between the Bering Sea and the north Pacific Ocean, in southwest Alaska, USA. Approximately 445 km/275 mi in length from east–west, they are flanked by the Islands of the Four Mountains and the Rat Islands. Principal islands in the group include Amlia, Atka, Adak, Kanaga, and Tanaga. They are treeless but covered with grasses and sedges; their Aleut population engages in fishing, hunting, sheep ranching, and fox farming. During World War II, US troops built several military bases here, some later enlarged and made permanent.
