Andrews, (Carver) Dana (1909–1992)

US actor. Known for his traditional handsomeness in leading-man roles, he played in several acclaimed US films of the 1940s and 1950s, including The Oxbow Incident (1943), Laura (1944), Fallen Angel (1945), A Walk in the Sun (1946), The Best Years of Our Lives (1946), and Beyond a Reasonable Doubt (1956).

Born in Mississippi, the son of a Baptist minister, Andrews was initially destined for a career in accountancy, but opted instead for acting. He made his stage debut in 1935 and his first film in 1940. His other films include Boomerang! (1947), Daisy Kenyon (1947), Where the Sidewalk Ends (1950), and While the City Sleeps (1956). One of his last appearances was as the film director ‘Red Riding Hood’ in the screen version of Scott Fitzgerald's The Last Tycoon (1976). He was president of the Screen Actors Guild 1963–65.
