Andrews, John Bertram

Andrews, John Bertram (1880–1943)

US labour expert, social reformer, and economist. His most significant work was his research into health and unemployment insurance for working people carried out in 1912–15. His progressive approach was not adopted, although elements were incorporated into the 1935 Social Security Act.

Andrews collaborated with Professor John R Commons on several academic texts such as Principles of Labor Legislation (1916), and he taught labour law and other social issue courses at Columbia University.
