Andriessen, Louis (1939- )

Dutch composer. His earlier work was influenced by John Cage, Charles Ives, and Igor Stravinsky; he later preferred the simplicities of minimalism.

He studied with his father, Hendrik Andriessen, and with Luciano Berio in Milan, Italy.

Anachronie, in memory of Ives, for orchestra (1966); Velocity for orchestra (1983).

Theatre pieces

Reconstructie (anti-imperialist theatre piece, 1969), Orpheus (1977), George Sand (1980), De Materie (1985-88).

Vocal

Dances for soprano and chamber orchestra (1991).
