Andronicus II Palaeologus (1260–1332)

Byzantine emperor 1282–1328, succeeding his father Michael VIII Palaeologus. During his reign the empire began to decline and contract; most of Asia Minor was lost to the Turks. He was deposed by his grandson Andronicus III.
