anechoic chamber

Room designed to be of high sound absorbency. All surfaces inside the chamber are covered by sound-absorbent materials such as rubber. The walls are often covered with inward-facing pyramids of rubber, to minimize reflections back into the interior of the chamber. It is used for experiments in acoustics and for testing audio equipment.
