Angara

Tributary of the River Yenisey in southern Siberia, Russian Federation, which flows out of the southeastern end of Lake Baikal; length 1,779 km/1,105 mi. Most of it is navigable. Large reservoirs for the hydroelectric plants at Irkutsk and Bratsk have shortened the original length of the river by some 50 km. Other hydroelectric schemes have been built at Ust-Ilimsk and Boguchany.

Other districts and territories where opisthorchiasis is endemic include the Yekaterinburg (formally Sverdlovsk) District (13), Altai territory, Voronezh District (14), Volga River valley (15) and Archangelsk District in western Russia, and the Angara River (16), Krasnoyarsk territory, and Irkutsk District in eastern Siberia (2).
The construction of the Irkutsk dam on the Angara River, which drains Baikal, caused Baikal's water level to rise between four and five feet, swallowing up historic settlements.
Irkutsk, located on the Angara River (a tributary of the Yenisey) is one of the great centers of Siberian culture.
