Angeles

City in the province of Pampanga on Luzon Island in the Philippines, 16 km/10 mi northwest of San Fernando; population (2000) 264,000. Industries include textiles and electronics. Tourism is based on golf courses, hotels, and country clubs. Nearby is the volcanic Mount Pinatubo, which erupted in 1991causing widespread damage and destroyed the nearby Clark US air base. This site has been redeveloped as the Clark Special Economic Zone, including Clark international airport.

Angeles was a major market centre in the 19th century during the sugar boom. It is the site of an international hot-air balloon festival.
