Angelus, The
| Painting by the French artist Jean François Millet 1858–59 (Louvre, Paris). It shows French peasants pausing in their work in the fields at the hour of prayer. It was exhibited at the Exposition Universelle of 1867 as L'Angélus du soir, and through reproductions became one of the most familiar images of the 19th century. |
