Anglesey, Henry William Paget, 1st Marquess of Anglesey (1768–1854)

British soldier and administrator. During the Napoleonic Wars, he led an unsuccessful cavalry charge at the Battle of Waterloo, and was created Marquess of Anglesey for his bravery. He was appointed Lord Lieutenant of Ireland 1828 but was recalled by the Duke of Wellington for supporting Catholic emancipation; he was reappointed in 1830 by Prime Minister Charles Grey, and until 1833 was responsible for the Irish Board of Education.
