Anglo-

Combining language form with several related meanings. In Anglo-Saxon it refers to the Angles, a Germanic people who invaded Britain in the 5th–7th centuries. In Anglo-Welsh it refers to England or the English. In Anglo-American it may refer either to England and the English or, commonly but less accurately, to Britain and the British (as in ‘Anglo-American relations’); it may also refer to the English language (as in ‘Anglo-American speech’); or to the Anglo-Saxon heritage in US society (as in WASP, white Anglo-Saxon Protestant).
