annealingControlled cooling of a material to increase ductility and strength. The process involves first heating a material (usually glass or metal) for a given time at a given temperature, followed by slow cooling. It is a common form of heat treatment. Normalizing is a type of annealing where a metal is heated to a point above its critical temperature before being cooled. This helps to refine the grain. How to thank TFD for its existence?
