Annenberg, Walter Hubert (1908–2002)

US publisher and philanthropist. Inheriting a communications empire that included the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Racing Forum, and several broadcast stations, Annenberg founded Seventeen magazine in 1944 and the immensely successful TV Guide in 1953. A prominent Republican, he served as US ambassador to Britain in 1969–74. He assembled a large art collection throughout his life which he donated to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, upon his death.
