Anopheles

Genus of mosquitoes in order Diptera (flies), family Culicidae. Most members of this genus have spotted wings and maxillary palpi that are as long as their proboscis. Many species are vectors of malaria.

Since controlling the malaria vector is one of the finest strategies to control malaria, understanding the genetic composition of different endemic Anopheles species in different localities is the need of the hour for development of effective malaria control strategies.
What makes the finding remarkable is that this particular type of cytochrome P450s also was recently implicated in pyrethroid resistance in Anopheles gambiae, the other major malaria-carrying mosquito in Africa.
In normal circumstances it's the female mosquito of the Anopheles species that bites someone and then passes on a parasite by the name of Plasmodium.
