Ansonia

Town in New Haven County, southwest Connecticut, USA; population (1990) 18,400. It is located on the Naugatuck River, 26 km/16 mi northeast of Bridgeport. Settled in 1651, it had a brass and copper mill by 1853, and became a major producer of metal products. Its industries, heavily tied to defence contracting, were in depression at the beginning of the 1990s.
