Antar

Programme symphony by Rimsky-Korsakov, Op. 9, based on Osip Senkovsky's oriental story of that name. It was composed in 1868 as ‘2nd Symphony’, revised in 1875, first performed at the St Petersburg, Russian Music Society in January 1876, and republished in 1903 as ‘symphonic suite’. The titles of the movements are I. Introduction; II. ‘Joy of Revenge’; III. ‘Joy of Power’; IV. ‘Joy of Love’.
