Greek Anthology

Large collection of short poems (over 3,000, including epigrams, songs, epitaphs) written by various authors between the early 5th century BC and the Middle Ages. Its nucleus is Meleager's anthology known as the Garland (2nd-1st century BC). This and subsequent collections were re-combined by Constantinus Cephalas in the 10th century; in the 14th century Maximus Planudes, a monk, gave the Greek Anthology its present form.
