The Computer Emergency Response Team operating out of Carnegie Mellon University reports that hackers implement advanced attack techniques that are more difficult to detect through anti-viral software and intrusion-detection systems. While not directly comparable, it appears that the portion of respondents who do not have anti-viral software approximately equals the number who have no Internet connections or external modem access. The Santa Monica-based Peter Norton Group has sold 250,000 copies of anti-viral software for Macintosh-compatible systems in the last year at $99 each, according to company spokesmen. |
