anticonvulsant

Any drug used to prevent epileptic seizures (convulsions or fits) or reduce their severity; see epilepsy.

In many cases, epilepsy can be controlled completely by careful therapy with one agent. Patients should stop or change treatment only under medical supervision.

Ten subjects were on continuous medication at the time of the study, including two taking anticonvulsants (phenobarbital and phenytoin).
Additionally, numerous drugs approved for other medical conditions have been found to work for pain, including antidepressants, antiarrhythmics (drugs used to correct irregular heart beat) and anticonvulsants (drugs used to prevent seizures).
We collected data on medication used (pain medications, sedatives, muscle relaxants, anticonvulsants, or antidepressants) because these drugs may alter the perception of pain or symptoms during the PE and may affect responses on self-report measures of symptoms and function.
