Anytus

Anytus (lived 5th–4th centuries BC)

Athenian democrat. With Thrasybulus, he helped to overthrow the Thirty Tyrants 404 BC. He was one of the accusers of Socrates 399 BC, and the Athenians, on repenting of the latter's death, sent Anytus into exile.

Anytus is angry at the imputation which is cast on his favourite statesmen, and on a class to which he supposes himself to belong; he breaks off with a significant hint.
Anytus is quite right in saying that they should never have indicted him if they meant to let him go.
