Anza Borrego Desert State Park

State park in south California, USA; area 2,430 sq km/940 sq mi. It is situated in the southwest of the Colorado Desert, extending from near the Salton Sea in the north to near the border with Baja California, Mexico, in the south. A region of arroyos, canyons, and badlands, it includes naval reservations and the Ocotillo Wells Vehicular Recreation Area. Borrego Springs, in the north, is the main settlement; population (1990) 2,200. The Coyote, Jacumba, and Tierra Blanca mountains lie to the west.

For seventeen years (1930 to 1947), poet, artist, and author Marshal South and his family lived on the remote, waterless mountaintop in California's Anza-Borrego Desert State Park and is referred to as "Ghost Mountain".
The wildflower show is best right now at lower elevations, such as Anza-Borrego Desert State Park in San Diego County, the Coachella Valley in Riverside County and southern Death Valley, which got record amounts of rain, Southern California wildflower expert Sid Dutcher said.
