Apocalypse Now

Vietnam War film made in the USA in 1979, directed by Francis Ford Coppola. Based on the novel Heart of Darkness (1902) by Joseph Conrad, with screenplay by Coppola, it concerns a soldier (actor Martin Sheen) sent up a Cambodian river during the Vietnam War to assassinate a renegade army officer (Marlon Brando).

The physical scale and imaginative scope of Apocalypse Now was highlighted by a heroic score. Other cast members include Robert Duvall, Laurence Fishburne, Dennis Hopper, and Harrison Ford. A new version of the film, with nearly an hour of restored footage, was released in 2001.
