Edfu

Town in Upper Egypt, situated on the west bank of the Nile about 778 km/484 mi southeast of Cairo. In ancient times it was known as Apollinopolis Magna, which is noted for its remarkable sandstone temple, dedicated to the sun god Horus, which is the most complete Egyptian temple remaining. It was begun by the king of Egypt Ptolemy III 237 BC and was not completed until 180 years later by Ptolemy XII 57 BC.
