Oratorio by Edward Elgar, Op. 49 (libretto compiled from the Bible by the composer), Part I of a trilogy. Part II is The Kingdom and Part III was never completed. The work was first performed at the Birmingham Festival, England, on 14 October 1903.

The language of the apostles, the jews and the romans in ancient Jerusalem is presented in a contemporary American vernacular.
I do not recall too many instances where the apostles, the early church fathers and subsequent great Christian thinkers and believers hesitated to make their positions clear, although not necessarily consistent.
