Appin

Mountainous area of Argyll and Bute unitary authority, Scotland, between lochs Leven, Linnhe, and Creran. Bennin a' Bheithir, measuring 1,024 m/3,361 ft, is the highest point in the area. The region's dramatic scenery formed the backdrop for Robert Louis Stevenson's Kidnapped 1886. Appin is still used extensively as a district term, especially in postal addresses.
