Appleton, Nathan (1779–1861)

US manufacturer and banker. As a US representative, Appleton argued for a protective tariff and for the Bank of the United States. He wrote Currency and Banking.

One of the founders of the cotton-mill industry in Massachusetts, he secured both profits and attractive working conditions for his employees.
