April

Fourth month of the modern calendar year. In the original Alban or Latin calendar April had 36 days and was the first month. Its Roman name, ‘Aprilis’, was derived from aperire, to open; either from the opening of the buds or of the bosom of the Earth to produce vegetation. The Anglo-Saxon name was Eostre- or Eastre-monath, Easter month.
