Apted, Michael (1941– )

English film and television director, whose works have included Coal Miner's Daughter (1980), Gorillas in the Mist (1988), The World is not Enough (1999).

His debut as a feature film director was with The Triple Echo in 1972. Other films include Stardust (1975), The Squeeze (1977), Class Action (1990), Thunderheart (1992), Blink (1993), Nell (1994), and Extreme Measures (1996). He is well known for his documentary series ‘UP’ which follows the development of a group of 14 school children he first filmed in 1963, in 7 UP. The most recent of these was 42 UP (1988).
