Genus of hardy perennial plants, of the buttercup family Ranunculaceae, of which A. caerula, A. chrysantha, A. formosa, and A. vulgaris, the columbine, and their varieties, are popular.

Aquilegia formosa, a California native columbine, is a real eye catcher.
Aquilegia x hybrida 'Remembrance,' developed by Ball Horticultural Company, has a unique white and deep violet flower.
Another perennial to consider is Aquilegia ``Swallowtail,'' a lemon yellow columbine that has trumpet flowers bearing 4-inch tails and finely cut blue-green foliage.
