Ramadi

Capital of Al Anbar governorate, Iraq, on the River Euphrates, 100 km/62 mi west of Baghdad; population (2001 est) 388,300. It was established in 1869 to encourage the settlement of nomadic tribes and its growth was stimulated by the completion in 1955 of a nearby dam across the Euphrates. It is the starting-point for the highway across the desert to Jordan.

Ar Ramadi is the capital of the volatile Al Anbar Province located in the seething heart of the Sunni insurgency.
OXNARD - A 28-year-old sailor from Oxnard was killed Tuesday by a makeshift bomb near Ar Ramadi, Iraq, the Department of Defense announced Thursday.
Whitley, 21, of Los Angeles, died June 15 when a bomb detonated near Ar Ramadi.
