Arado

German aircraft of World War II, including the AR 196 floatplane and the AR 234, the first German jet bomber.

The principal model was the AR 196, a twin-float low-wing monoplane used as a reconnaissance machine by the German Navy and carried aboard most warships. It was also used for coastal patrolling and light bombing missions.

The AR 234 was a twin-jet, one-man, machine capable of flying at 740 kph/460 mph and carrying 1,500 kg/3,300 lb of bombs. It was brought into service late 1944 and was used extensively on the Western Front, notably in the Battle of the Bulge and against the Remagen bridges.
