Aragua

State on the northern coast of Venezuela, lying mainly within the parallel ranges of the Venezuelan Cordillera; area 5,616 sq km/2,168 sq mi; population (1996) 1,344,099. There are many fertile valleys in the basin of Lake Valencia. The state capital is Maracay. Principal products from Aragua include textiles, coffee, cocoa, and sugar.
