Arava

Arid valley south of the Dead Sea on the Israel-Jordan border. Arava is a sparsely populated area between the Negev and Edom mountains.

The Arava Institute for Environmental Studies is sited at Kibbutz Ketura. In Old Testament times Arava was known as Arabah (Hebrew ‘arid’), and encompassed the entire region of the Jordan Depression from the Sea of Galilee to the Dead Sea.
