Arbuthnot, May Hill (1884–1969)

US educator. Arbuthnot established the first nursery schools in Ohio, including the Western Reserve Nursery School, which became a centre for the study of early education. In 1939, she produced the Basic Readers: Curriculum Foundation Series and the Dick and Jane series with William Gray. The Dick and Jane books have helped many children in the USA to learn to read, and her Children and Books is a widely used college textbook.
