Arcaro, (George Edward) Eddie (1916–1997)

US jockey. Nicknamed ‘the Master’, he rode 4,779 winners in a 31-year racing career between 1931 and 1961, for which he earned an unprecedented $30,039,543 in purse money. He was the first jockey to win the Kentucky Derby five times, and his achievement in winning both the Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes six times has not been surpassed. He was also the only jockey to ride two horses to the Triple Crown.
