The archerfish inhabits the brackish waters of river estuaries around the coasts of Southeast Asia and northern Australia.

Surface-living fish of the family Toxotidae, such as the genus Toxotes, native to Southeast Asia and Australia. The archerfish grows to about 25 cm/10 in and is able to shoot down insects up to 1.5 m/5 ft above the water by spitting a jet of water from its mouth.
