Archidamus II (476–427 BC)

Eurypontid king of Sparta c. 469–427 BC. He did his utmost to prevent the Peloponnesian War, but was overruled by the war party. He led a Spartan force of 10,000 men into Attica 431 BC and led similar raids 430 and 428 BC.
