Archigenes of Apamea (born c. 54)

Roman medical author and practitioner during the reign of the emperor Trajan. He followed the principles of the Pneumatists, an Alexandrian medical sect founded by Athenaeus of Attalia, and based on the theory that life is associated with the pneuma - a subtle vapour.

He wrote treatises on pathology and the practice of medicine and surgery. His fragments are in the works of Galen, Aetius, and Oribasius.
