pediment

In architecture, the triangular structure crowning the portico of a classical building. The pediment was a distinctive feature of Greek temples.

pediment

Broad, gently inclined erosion surface formed at the base of a mountain as it erodes and retreats. Pediments consist of bedrock and are often covered with a thin layer of sediments, called alluvium, which have been eroded off the mountain.
